Newman-Smith was nabbed as Narc officers watched him get into the passenger seat of a BMW about 10:30 p.m. As they approached the vehicle the officers saw him try to shove something down the front of his pants, Conklin said.
During a search, officers retrieved a brown piece of paper containing19 glassine bags of heroin with no stamp on them, Conklin said.
Newman-Smith was charged with possession of narcotics and possession of narcotics with intent to sell. He was held on $25,000 court bond.
In addition, Newman-Smith was also hit with an additional $75,000 bond for the 2016 robbery of the Hope Street Convenience store and $50,000 bond for the March beating of a pregnant woman. In both cases, he failed to appear in court, Conklin said.
